The VDL Futura FDD2 is used by the NTA (National Transport Authority) in Ireland as a public transport bus on regional and commuter routes.
TAILOR-MADE FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT USE
The Futura's FDD2-141 for NTA are built to a very comprehensive public transport specification. It is important for the intended use that waiting times at bus stops are kept to a minimum. Therefore, the vehicles are equipped with 2 passenger doors and 2 stairways. In addition, the total height of the vehicles is 4.17 metres, which means that the ceiling height on both the lower and upper deck is a more generous 1.82 metres.
These features, combined with the completely flat floor of the lower deck, increase freedom of movement considerably, which makes boarding and alighting easier. In addition, the flat floor and the wide single-leaf passenger door in the middle (which is equipped with a wheelchair ramp) ensure that passengers with reduced mobility can get in and out of the Futura FDD2-141 easily.
A CCTV camera system, a payment system and route indicators complete the smooth implementation of the VDL Futura coaches in public transport operations.
