166 VDL Citeas for Arriva’s Limburg concession 12 VDL Citeas LLE-99 Electric in scheduled service in Venlo
Passenger transport company Arriva is the first firm in the world to take delivery of the brand-new VDL Citea LLE-99 Electric. Since Sunday, 11 December 2016, the date upon which the Dutch Limburg concession started, 12 VDL Citeas LLE-99 Electric have been deployed as part of Venlo’s regular scheduled service. In Maastricht 4 VDL Citeas SLF-120 Electric are in use for the city service. VDL Bus & Coach has delivered 166 Citeas for the entire Limburg concession.
“We’re particularly proud that we have once again been able to deliver so many buses to Arriva Nederland”, said Willem van der Leegte, the president of VDL Groep. “We’re also really pleased that Arriva has opted for electric models of the Citea, including our brand-new 9.9-metre version. The collaboration with Arriva is to be extended even further, since we will also be carrying out the maintenance of the buses in Limburg.”
VDL Citea LLE-99 Electric
In the Citea LLE-99 Electric, VDL Bus & Coach has combined the Light Low Entry concept with a quiet, efficient electric powertrain. As with the traditional LLE, which has the reputation of being the champion of lightweight buses, the net weight has been kept very low, making for a highly efficient bus that sets new standards of average energy consumption. With the 9.9-metre version, quieter urban and regional bus lines will also benefit from zero-emissions public transport. All electric Citeas are fitted with a rapid charging system using a pantograph.
131 VDL Citeas LLE and 19 VDL Citeas SLF
The order that VDL Bus & Coach won consists of a further 103 Citeas LLE-120, 28 Citeas LLE-99 and 19 Citeas SLF-120. The Citeas LLE are distinguished by their extremely low net weight, with major advantages being significantly lower fuel consumption in comparison to conventional buses and lower maintenance costs. The fuel saving not only means lower operating costs but also significant reduction of the CO2 emissions. The new, shorter variant, the VDL Citea LLE-99 (9.9 metres in length), has been specifically designed for sparsely populated areas and for scheduled services with clear peak and off-peak times. In areas with lower demand for transport the deployment of smaller buses contributes to a greener image. The Citea SLF (Low Floor), with its completely flat floor, compact dimensions and great maneuverability, is the ideal city bus. All the buses are fitted with Wi-Fi and USB charging points for every seat.
